- This past year was one of highs and lows. Not just for women and members of LGBT communities across the world, but also for me personally. My myth that the ‘liberal’ Western world is more accepting of queer people and of people of colour, and is far ahead in terms of gender equality, was shattered. A former female colleague, a white American who is a fiercely intelligent and driven sports journalist, helped me understand just how deep-rooted gender bias is, even in the US.
